Lynda Mullis: Caverswall CPW
Fiery, and not just the hair!!
My name is Lynda Mullis, wife to Neil (no age supplied), and mother to 3 wonderful children, Kayleigh 10, Matthew 6 and George 1,
I adore loud coloured clothes, my kA, chocolate, handmade jewellery from Wales, most crafts, red wine, Lovejoy, Peter Kay, Robbie Williams and Little Britain. Look in my quotes section for another view of me in the form of a poem that a friend wrote for my recent 40th birthday
I am the Youth and Community Worker at St Peter’s and St Andrew’s Churches in the parish of Caverswall and Weston Coyney.
My background is a mixture of church based youth work (Discovery-the schools ministry of Agape, Leek church work) and secular youth work (Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire Councils)
I hold my local JNC qualification in youth work and will be heading off to University in Sept 2005 to work on my Degree in Youth studies.
The church I‘m in,is the church I grew up in and found my personal faith in Jesus.
I have a great desire to work with the young people in the church and show them the love that changed my life at 14 years.
I also have a great desire to see those outside of the church come to hear the message of love that Jesus brings.
I know that many see the youth of today as angry, wild, out of control and simply antisocial young hooligans.
I know that the only one that can bring about a change in their lives is Jesus.
So even when it’s been a bad night and we have had it all thrown back in our faces I pray we will learn to see them as He does and love as He does.
Some activities I am involved in.
Friday night Drop-in is for those out who wish to come in and chill, play pool and chat. We regularly see 25 – 40 young people. (We are just in the process of starting up a Homework /After school group for years 7 - 9's. This has been possible through funding from the Local Network Fund.)
Wednesdays we run an 11+ youth group and we are starting to look at what Jesus say through the aid of The Simpson’s and Little Britain. We have about 16 at this.
I am currently in the process of working with a group of 16 young people who wish to start a Youth Group in the village of Caverswall. We meet monthly and we are in the process of applying for a funding grant to provide the financial means for this.
I also oversee all the children’ s work including a core group of 8-10’s who meet each week after school to look into the bible. 8 young people attend. Three of that group has made commitments to Jesus and others are searching.
